Centre of attention

I LOVE THIS PHOTO!! I think it's because, I'm like, in the centre.

The centre of attention.

Yeah right. That was taken when the gang went to the airport to send Huijeen and Sarah off to the United States of America!!

Anyway they're there now, and I'm here. In my new job.

I'm currently interning at SPH, writing for The New Paper. It's a job with very long hours, so I think I probably won't be free to go out for the next few weeks or so. Anyway, it's not like I have such a vibrant social life, so it's fine I suppose.

This is just a quick update to say... I might not be able to continue my one entry a week stint for the next few weeks. I'm just too tired, and I don't want to stare at the computer screen when I come back home after doing the same thing at work the whole day!

But nevertheless, I shall try. Like now, see? I'm updating aren't I?

Despite being really busy, I've gotten the chance to start (and catch up to) a new series!! Let me present to you, White Collar!!!

So gorgeous right?! Zomg, it isn't a really good show if you're talking about story and mythology. But Matt Bomer's in it and I watch it just for him.

Which I am really embarrassed to say, because I generally don't watch shows for the guys! I mean my favourite show right now is Parks and Recreation, and I definitely do not watch that for any guys... Well maybe Adam Scott, but he's not the main reason I watch that.

Speaking of Prex, the Emmy nominations are coming out next Friday! (Thursday in the USA, wherever you're reading this from). Last year I was all about supporting Modern Family in the comedy categories, but this year I'm all for PREX!!!

I gotta say though, I might be supporting them, but pragmatically there's no chance Prex is going to get nominated for anything. Even though by my standards they should have at least one nomination in 4 of the 5 major categories.

Ah well. I'm currently waiting for the latest episode of White Collar to load, which is why I'm even blogging. I suspect this will be the case for the weeks to come (at least for the next 3 weeks - explanation below), I will blog while waiting to watch White Collar.

The explanation is this! I'm going to delve into TV talk now, so here goes.

There are many ways to categorize TV shows. One of the ways to do so is by the network that produces them.

The big 4 networks (maybe 5 if you want to count The CW) are Fox, NBC, ABC, and CBS. They are the free to air channels in the USA and air shows such as Gossip Girl (CW), Glee (Fox), Prex (NBC), Castle (ABC), and HIMYM (CBS).

Usually, their seasons run from fall (September) to the start of summer (May). The regular length for a season is around 22 episodes, subjected to adding or subtracting a few more episodes. If a show is only meant to run in the fall - winter, or winter - spring, then they may only have 13 episodes. But these shows are in a minority, and the stable secure shows usually have a standard 22 episode season.

Then you have the cable networks. These can be further classified into 2 categories. You have small networks such as AMC, FX, and DirecTV (this is more a satellite channel than cable.. but never mind). Their shows, like Mad Men (AMC), Sons of Anarchy (FX) and FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (DirecTV) run for a typical 13 episode season.

They usually are run in one shot, meaning no hiatuses, no preempted breaks, and generally are of a higher standard than the network shows. Haha. The last point was my own opinion. Also, the shows run on these networks attract a more niche and specific audience.

Now we come to the bigger cable networks like USA, where White Collar is broadcasted on!! Other shows include Covert Affairs, Burn Notice and Psych.

As far as I know, USA is the only channel I know who runs 16 episode seasons typically. Not only do they do that, the 16 episode season is broken down into 2 parts.

So say White Collar, which had its 3rd season start at the beginning of June, will run until August, when the 10th episode has aired. It will then take a hiatus of like, 1/2 a year, and probably come back in January. SO LONG RIGHT?!?!!

Yeah. I took such a long time to explain it, haha.

Anyway I should probably go. I'm really tired, so I'm just going to slack around and wait for White Collar, yay.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is coming out next week! I don't know if I should feel sad, being the huge fan I am? But you know what, the series ended for me back in 2007. July 21st 2007 to be specific. The movie series was never anything more than a simple supplement to placate the fans.

Ah well. I'll still be watching it anyway, and my fingers are crossed in the hopes that it'll be good.

(Side note, I'm very irritated. Couldn't Hollywood/Bloomsbury/whoever is in charge for all these release dates have ensured, at least once, that the films or books were released on the 31ST OF JULY? Which as we all know, is J.K. Rowling's as well as Harry Potter's birthday?!)
