Attachment is coming to an end!!

Those of you who watch Bones, might recognise this guy:

That's SWEETS from the hit Fox show, Bones. One of those shows that hit its stride 3-4 seasons ago. I still watch it regularly, but I can feel my love for it ebbing away, as it did for House. That isn't the point... The point is that, in the show, Bones and Booth tease him regularly for looking like a kid - a kid way too young to be holding a position in the FBI as a psychologist.

Personally, I didn't find that he looked just like a baby boy or whatever, although it did seem baffling at the time that a 24 year old (in the show in the 2007 season) could become a certified psychologist, even though he was supposed to be a child genius. Anyway, my point is that, I just found out he was only 22 when given the role of Dr. Lance Sweets. And that, 8 years prior to his career on Bones, he looked like....

THIS. This is a screencap from Freaks and Geeks, a way-too-short lived dramedy on NBC 12 years ago. Wow, I feel young. John Francis Daley was one of the main cast members, portraying a geeky insecure freshmen in high school. The moment I saw him in the show I wanted to pinch his cheeks to death; he was so goddamn cute in the past!!

Despite the show being a mere 18 episodes, I thought it was quite a perfect season. You know how a Great American Novel is described as a novel which accurately captures the spirit of America? Freaks and Geeks is the quintessential "Great American High School TV Show" - because it accurately portrays what the spirit high school is really like for the "middle class" students. Not the jocks and the cheerleaders, not the losers who by some sudden stroke of luck transform into a dashing young dude, but really.. Just the Freaks and Geeks.

Of course I can't say much, because I'm not a product of the American education system. I'm from Singapore, where uniformity and equality is enforced, and individuality is suppressed. I sound so bitter about the system, and in some ways, I am. But you know, you have to admit that Singapore's share of youth delinquents and teenage pregnancy is lower than the global average. I think. God knows what are the statistics like now. Also, I can't ignore the fact that the Singapore education system - a pressure cooker though it might be - produces really clever people.

SO yes, I shall stop rambling on about TV shows - ohhhh ok by the way I'm watching Firefly! Another great short lived show - and tell you guys what I'm planning!

I'm planning my dream/ideal graduation trip!! HAHA! Yes I know right, whuuutttt?! WeiQin you're graduating in a year's time, why the hell are you planning it now? The fact is that I'm very jaded by work, and also by the fact that I will have no real free time to enjoy myself until after year 4 semester 1 - assuming FYP doesn't take its toll on me, which I think it will actually. All around me, everyone has already flown off overseas for an extended period of time, or are currently overseas, or will be going overseas.

What about me? Not only am I stuck in Singapore - maybe I can bear with that - but to have no break at all from January 24th of this year all the way to (possibly) 2nd December, is a thought I can hardly bear to think about. I know that something exciting is coming up in my life, it's just that the thought of no time for myself is very depressing, to be honest.

SO, in an act of desperation, I've started planning my ideal grad trip. You know the old adage. If you can't do it, plan it. Okay fine, I came up with that on the spot. It's a pretty good saying, no?! If you can't do it, you plan it - someone will see that you're so serious about doing it, and then offer you a chance!

Anyway the location is North America. Duh, as if you'll expect anything else from me. I'll most probably be going - if I get to go - myself! Or with my dad, but he can only join me for 4 weeks. Ideally all my friends will have the time and money to spare, but no. Only I will be willing to spend an exorbitant amount of money on my grad trip because this is important to me. And also, I don't want to do what most people do on tours (party? shop? suntan?), I want to visit historical sites and great sceneries. You can say that my priorities are not in check, but whatever.

I'm just mapping out places I want to go to and routes I want to take without caring about the money first, because... that's more fun. So far I've gotten quite a lot of places, and I intend to strike some off due to practicality sake when I start planning further.

This is all I've got so far. I'm just basically putting down stuff I remember people saying that it's a must-go, and also I'm googling searches like "places to visit in the USA" etc. Anyway I have like 10 months to plan, and I gotta say I think planning is a very exciting part of travelling itself. The other parts are shopping for travelling, and finally, obviously, seeing your plans come to fruition :)

I shall update soon! I gotta say, I'm sticking quite admirably well to my blog once a week schedule.
